What people say?

Joanna made the most beautiful vegan semi naked 3 tier cake for our wedding and we were delighted with the results! As were our guests, who were shocked to find out it was vegan as the ‘butter’ icing was that creamy! We went for a different flavour for each tier: Bakewell tart with an almond sponge, chocolate and lavender with chocolate fudge frosting and lemon and white chocolate. Each tier tasted delicious and the cake was beautifully moist. What’s more is that Joanna decorated our cake with great attention to detail and finesse, using the the very pretty flowers that our wedding florist provided - we were overjoyed with how it turned out! Throughout our correspondence, Joanna was very attentive to every detail as we tried to describe our dream wedding cake! I can say that she took into account exactly how we were envisaging it and we were very pleased with the result!

Joanna made the cake for our wedding recently & it was delicious and looked beautiful.

We asked for the top tier to be vegan and gluten free and Joanna was happy to do it.

Joanna was helpful and flexible throughout. Highly recommended.

Joanna made a lovely 2 tier wedding cake for our very low-key wedding. The cake was delivered and set up in the morning. We didn't want anything too contrived looking but a bit more natural. The cake was a semi-naked cake decorated with berries and herbs. Just right!
We chose 2 different flavours, a blackcurrant Bakewell and a lemony one, because we were worried that mother-in-law might find the Bakewell a bit too exotic, but everyone loved both!
All the communications were very straightforward and friendly and we felt we got an excellent personal service.

The Organic Cakery is an evolution of Cake Design by Joanna Clarke which I established in 2014. The rebranding of my business has sustainability at the heart of its ethos.

Organic and sustainable crops are grown without pesticides and preservatives, they are fresher, contain higher nutrient counts, are GMO free (genetically modified organisms) and most importantly organically reared animals are not given antibiotics, growth hormones, or fed animal by-products which means that all butter, cream and milk used in your cakes will not contain these either.

My primary focus at The Organic Cakery is to take care of the environment whilst producing your beautiful wedding cake. I only use ethically, fair-trade and organically sourced produce of the very highest quality, which either comes from the Bore Place estate or the very local area.

When you decide to work with me to have your dream wedding cake designed, you will know the provenance of the ingredients and be able to think in food miles. You can rest easy in the knowledge that superfluous plastic packaging will not be used and I focus on farm to table (predominantly from our very own market garden), rather than internationally exported plastic wrapped fruit.

Bore Place is the home of The Commonwork Trust. A big part of the trusts charitable work comes from the ‘Grow to Grow’ project which is a project for young people who are vulnerable and disadvantaged, often recovering from mental health issues.

They come to Bore Place for respite from their day to day troubles, to learn skills and work with the Market Garden. They help to grow vegetables and fruit supplied to the Bore Place Kitchen, local pubs and The Organic Cakery.

Wedding Cakes

The Organic Cakery specialises in Bespoke wedding cakes, naked cakes and vegan cakes.
I have attended various masterclasses with internationally recognised tutors and I specialise in handcrafted sugar, cold-porcelain flowers and intricate royal icing piping. My wedding cakes are uniquely designed for each couple and could range from a simple and rustic naked cake, to a technically challenging classical Croqembouche, right the way through to a grand, beautiful Victorian wedding cake. I consider my wedding cake style to be modern classical, with a wide range of skills that reflect this.

Fresh flowers can also be used to decorate your wedding cake.

Chocolate Wedding Cake

Some couples come to me with wedding cakes that they have designed themselves but usually I will sit down with them to help them to create their dream bespoke wedding cake design.

The consultation lasts for around an hour, during which you can enjoy a full tasting menu, this will help you to decide your favourite flavours. I like for my couples to bring details of their weddings with them, mood boards, Pinterest boards, flower, dress and table decoration pictures, this really helps me to get a picture of your wedding style. It’s really important to me that the style of your wedding cake fits in perfectly with its surroundings. For me, a wedding cake should be the ultimate showpiece that ties everything together and enhances it. After your wedding cake is booked in, all bespoke wedding cake clients will receive a hand drawn sketch of their wedding cake in a wedding cake presentation pack. This is posted to you and will also include a copy of your booking order form and a serving and cake cutting guide for you to give to your venue.

Consultation fees are £25 for one hour, including the tasting menu.

For all wedding cakes I require a £200 non-refundable booking deposit with the remainder of the balance due six weeks before the wedding date. Any wedding orders in excess of £800, I require a 30% booking deposit.
